App Alert: Planned Parenthood Launches Roo, a Sexual Advice App for Teens
Planned Parenthood has launched a chat bot, designed to answer questions about sexual health that teenagers might not be comfortable asking their parents.
“We know that many young people are nervous or embarrassed to ask questions about their sexual heath,” Planned Parenthood Federation of America president Dr. Leana Wen said in a statement. “They often go online to get information and ask their questions anonymously. It’s important that our youth receive a reliable answer they can trust.”
There are a few challenges with Roo for parents of younger kids. There is no bouncer at the door checking ID’s, so if your kid is too young for this information, it’s up to you to limit their access to this resource. The other, bigger, challenge is that the information that Planned Parenthood provides might not reflect the values and morals of your family.
As with every website and app, you need to help guide your kids to determine if this is something to which you want them to have access.
